Jekyll Island - Moved to September 2020
Posted 3/20/2020 at 12:17:28 PM by Laura Neely [staff member]

Unfortunately, we have to cancel the fifth grade trip to Jekyll scheduled for May. BUT GOOD NEWS! We have secured Sept. 20-23 for Jekyll Island as the sixth grade field trip. Please do not make any more payments towards the Jekyll trip. We are going to immediately refund all chaperone payments. We are going to publish a process for requesting student payment refunds so please hold off on asking questions about that right now. You are also free to leave your payment with PTO. It will carry over and be applied to next year's trip.

We know you probably have a lot of questions about this. We are working on a Fact Sheet for you and will have that published next week. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we all deal with disappointments and scheduling issues during this time.

Jekyll Island - 5th Grade Field Trip
Posted 3/18/2020 at 10:05:49 AM by Laura Neely [staff member]

It is looking like the Jekyll Island field trip will most likely not happen this spring. We have a few items we are working through today (3.18) and tomorrow (3.19). I will post an update here when we have some things finalized. Our tasks:
  • Looking at taking the trip in September 2020
  • People who have already paid: how to handle that
  • Rescheduling charter buses

We know that the Jekyll Trip is such an important part of the experience of being a #kmskid. We have beeing going to the coast since we opened in 1987! Thank you for your patience as we work through the details.

Grading & Grades for Virtual Learning
Posted 3/18/2020 at 10:05:07 AM by Laura Neely [staff member]

We are not going to count work late. The official policy is that students have two weeks when we get back to turn in late work. However, we don't know how long we will be out. We hope that our #kmskids can and want to keep up with their work because learning is important.  We don't want any student to get so far behind that the work piles  high and becomes insurmountable. We don't want any student to fall behind his/her peers.

In the gradebook/Infinite Campus portal, we are going to mark student's work missing. This will accomplish two things:
(1)  Both the student and parent will have a way to check for missing work in Infinite Campus. If you are set up with the mobile app, you should get a push notification for all gradebook updates.
(2) The teacher will be able to see a clear list of who is missing work and can communicate easily with parents & students about it.

Note that missing work will calcuate as a zero and will impact the average. However, as soon as the work is submitted, the grade will be given for full credit and replace the zero.

We strongly recommend that students keep up as they are able. If your household experiences any situation that prevents your child from doing or accessing work, please let us know so we can support you.
