Frequently Asked Questions

When is the Reading Bowl?

The DeKalb County Reading Bowl will take place on Saturday, January 26th, 2019. The regional competition usually takes place the following week at Clayton State University if the Kittredge team were to make it to the next round.

What if I don’t want my child reading a particular book?

Should you have any concerns about the content of any of the books, please know that students will not be required to read anything that you find objectionable. We read books on the Middle School list which is intended for students in grades 6 – 8, so know that the themes and content will reflect that targeted interest level.

How do you select the Reading Bowl team?

Because membership is limited, students will be selected for the Reading Bowl following the tryout. Students must be able to answer questions about the Reading Bowl books quickly and with accuracy. Students are also expected to write questions that will be used during tryout. The final roster will be announced at the end of the tryout in October.

When does the team practice?

Practices start promptly at 2:30 after dismissal on Tuesday afternoons starting on September 22nd and will occur every week through January. Practices will last until 3:30 at which time students will need to be picked up. Any students who are not picked up by 3:30 will be placed in aftercare and charged $15.
