FAQs:
Is there a lot of hom
ework?
Compared to what your current third grader most likely has, yes. There are light nights and there are heavy nights. Weekends and holidays are not homework-free. Your child will be expected to complete his/her own work correctly and on time each day. We will provide the support necessary if your child does not understand concepts being taught.

Should I expect that my straight-A student continues to make straight As while at KMS?
Your student will most likely make his/her first B or lower on an assignment while at KMS. We have high standards for learning, following directions, and completing work accurately, neatly and on-time. Be prepared to work with your child through what can be a shocking experience of his/her first B. All of our students learn strong work and study habits during their time at KMS. They also learn grit and perseverance by working through the emotions and reasons for a few low grades. Students (and their parents) who are willing to learn from their mistakes, always come out ahead in the end!

Does my child have to take German? Does my child have to play an instrument?
Yes and yes. German is required through eighth grade. Instrumental music is required through sixth grade. You are responsible for purchasing or renting an instrument and accompanying music books and supplies.

If we gain a seat in the lottery, can I request that my child be placed in a class with a friend or with a specific teacher?
No. We make all class placements. Please be assured that all students make new friends quickly and easily.

Do test scores influence the order of students selected in the lottery?
No. All eligible students are placed in the lottery without any sort of ranking.

Is transportation provided?
Transportation is provided at the will of the district. This year, we have satellite bus locations at Knollwood, Princeton, Flat Rock, Memorial Stadium, and Coralwood. All transportation information will be published over the summer 2016.

What do we do if we are selected in the lottery?
We will publish an online registration procedure right here on our website. Bookmark our website to be ready to register if you are selected.
